Stereomorphological Study on Juxtaglomerular Cells of Dehydrated Mice
Yoon Tae-Jung

Rah Bong-Jin
Abstract
To study of the juxtaglomerular cells of mice under the dehydrated condition the stereomorphometry introduced by Loud (1962) were applied. The kidney was prefixed by perfusion of 2.3% glutaraldehyde in 45 mM cacodylate buffer and its specimens were postfixed in cold 1% osmium tetroxide in 45 mM cacodylate buffer by immersion and their thin sections were stained with uranyl acetate and lead citrate, and their electron micrographs are taken for the stereomorphometrical study. The results observed were as follows; 1. Fractions of the mitochondria, secretary granules, and membrane space of normal cells show 3.41%, 15.61%, and 67.06%, respectively. 2. Fractions of the mitochondria, secretary granules, and membrane space of dehydrated mouse are 2.37%, 31.94% and 44.72%, respectively. Fraction of secretary granules shows increase but that of membrane space decreases comparing with the normal mouse. 3. In the cells of the normal mouse, well developed granular endoplasmic reticulae and matured, round secretary granules with relatively uniform electron density are found in their cytoplasm. On the contrary, the cells of the dehydrated mouse contain immatured secretary granules with varying electron density as well as matured, round and irregular granules, and well developed granular endoplasmic reticulae show distended cisternae.
